live in the moment.

One of the most valuable lessons I have learned in the past year is  to live in the moment. I have had so many amazing opportunities and experiences that have absolutely changed my life for the better, but sometimes it has taken until it was over for me to realize how much I actually appreciated it. Examples include: DYW, my Europe trip, my senior year soccer season, and even other small experiences or relationships. Sometimes it is difficult to see how much I depend on the happy and the good moments until it isn’t light anymore. Like many others, I tend to long for and love summer more during the middle of the winter. I often don’t stop to notice how perfect things are until a problem arises. Why is it so hard to fully appreciate the goodness in life while it is good? I reflect on the scripture stories where the people don’t seem to feel the desire or need to pray to God until they need His help for something. I hope I can always recognize the hand of God even, and especially, when my life is good. My personal goal is to always be aware of and understanding of the numberless circumstances of pure joy I am blessed to experience. To notice the unnoticeable pleasures, to feel happy during happy times, to love others especially when I feel the most loved, and to be who I want to become as I am becoming it. I love the quote, “A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.” Why focus on the overwhelming ending goal when you can grow from focusing on only the step you are taking? My wish is to be attentive and especially appreciative to each and every step of this journey to be able to completely enjoy and get as much out of life as I can. Life is good.

Love, Lily
