hope.

Hope is defined as a feeling and desire through trust for certain things to happen. I believe that especially recently, the LDS church is striving for a new sense of hope for the future through many different aspects of living. We have heard the phrase “Hope of Israel” several times in the past year as the prophet shares his true witness of the importance of our call to gather Israel and bring the world the truthfulness of the gospel. The Thirteenth Article of Faith reminds us, “We believe all things, we hope all things, we have endured many things, and hope to be able to endure all things.” As this progresses to be a big part of the current and future outlook of the church, it is important for us to remember why we hope and where that hope comes from. Beginning from the time that the Book of Mormon was translated and brought unto us, we have had a powerful and crucial understanding of the Savior’s life and how it benefits us. Reading the testimonies of the ancient prophets is always a sure way to strengthen my own testimony and it certainly brings me hope for the future. I know that the prophets of those times knew what this world would come to, and their messages are warnings and blessings to us through these times. To me, it is amazing to see that this gospel has consistently striven for hope even in suffering. This year as I have set new goals to strive to be better, I have especially focused on the word “hope” and how my near future will require much faith in my actions. Although it is difficult to stay engaged in reaching goals throughout the year, I have found that having a hope to succeed can make the difference. I always seem to improve myself the most when I choose to focus on my eternal goals and what I really want out of my life. Hope has always strengthened my understanding that everything will work out in the end. I heard a quote once that said, “It will all work out in the end. If it hasn’t worked out yet, then it isn’t the end yet.” I am so excited to be able to read the Book of Mormon again this year and to be influenced by the witnesses of Jesus Christ once more as I hope to become more like Him and better align my will with His.

Ether 12:4-Wherefore, whoso believeth in God might with surety hope for a better world, yea, even a place at the right hand of God, which hope cometh of faith, maketh an anchor to the souls of men, which would make them sure and steadfast, always abounding in good works, being led to glorify God.

Love, Lily
